33 years since the last time this exact coin was offered at auction via Rarcoa August 1990, this GEM Liberty Seated Quarter is now available. The 1852 Quarter Dollar is a scarce date because most of the 177,060 examples struck were melted, as such only 450 are estimated today in all grades. A small group survived the purge and some can be found in MS63 and MS64 grades. MS65 and better examples are truly rare, and any finer is an absolute rarity. Among them this example is certified and tied for finest at PCGS and is part of an Old Holder Type Set, surpassed by one coin at NGC, a MS68* from the Eric Newman Collection, which sold in 2013 for $107,750. The present example is a MS66 PCGS CAC in an OGH Gen 2.1 slabbed between the 3 months of October-Dec 1989. With Creamy surface intermingled with gold hues, the coin remains intact and unmolested as it sold 33 years ago. With a Price Guide of $25,000 and a relevant comp sale of $21,500 08/17 DL for a non-OGH which had a big hit on the face, there have been no sale for the past 6 years. Truly one of the finest and fresh to market, and clearly better than than a MS66.
