Mintages are known to be significantly low for every denomination minted in 1870, as it was only the first year of production by the Carson City mint. As a result, the date has become a rarity for all denominations and the 1870-CC half dollar is one of the toughest of all the dates for the denomination. This rare 1870-CC example is a lowball and one of the lowest graded example currently existing. This piece displays khaki and tan brown colors overall with more than enough details visibly seen for the grade. The surfaces are smooth with no notable scuffs found on either side of the coin. Only 200 survivors out of the few minted remain today for this Liberty Seated half dollar lowball specimen. A distinctive example that standouts from the rest for an issue that is inextricably rare and expensive. A CAC in Fine might will cost $5,000+, a CAC in VF $12,000 08/21 HA and the finest a MS64 has a Price Guide of $450,000. Safe to say this represents excellent value.
