The 1912 Indian Head Quarter Eagle ($2.50 Gold Coin) is a scarce and undervalued issue in the series, particularly prized in higher Mint State grades. With a mintage of 616,000, it is relatively obtainable in MS64 but becomes exceptionally rare in finer conditions. This Choice MS64+ CAC-approved example exhibits superb preservation and exceptional quality, nearing the finest-certified survivors. Its softly lustrous surfaces glow with vibrant golden-yellow tones, complemented by rich orange-gold highlights that enhance the elegance of its iconic incuse design. The obverse features sharp, crisply defined details in the Native American chief’s profile and headdress, with recessed fields displaying a deeper golden patina for added contrast. The reverse mirrors this brilliance, showcasing the eagle’s feathers, shield, and talons in exquisite detail, framed by darker patina that enhances its visual depth. The rim and inscriptions are boldly struck, underscoring the coin’s strong craftsmanship. With only 11 CAC-approved examples finer and recent sales ranging between $4,500-$7,000 but more recently much higher, this coin’s rarity and demand are well-established.
