Liberty Head Eagle
The 1893-CC Liberty Head $10 Gold Eagle is a historically significant and highly sought-after coin, marking the final $10 gold piece struck at the Carson City Mint before its closure on June 1, 1893. With a mintage of only 14,000 and an estimated survival of just 325 examples, it is one of the scarcest gold issues from this iconic branch mint. Unlike the 1891-CC eagle, which saw some distribution overseas, the 1893-CC primarily circulated domestically in the American West, making high-grade survivors exceedingly rare, as such it is one of the rarest Carson City Eagle in higher grade. Produced from a single pair of dies, this issue stands as a cornerstone of Carson City coinage, celebrated for its historical importance and exceptional rarity, particularly in top condition. We acquired this example RAW from a collector in Vegas. In hand if you do not look at the high-points this coin has the look and feel of a Mint-State example, but only by examining the high points on the eagles feathers will you then realize it is actually an Almost Uncirculated piece. With warm golden toning, sharp relief, and enduring appeal, we can't recommend this coin enough. Last auction record was for $9,000 07/23 HA which had spots and the last NGC AU58 was for $9,600 11/24 HA which looks similar to this. PCGS Price Guide today at $11,500.
Included: Auction flip from 1978 where this exact coin was purchased from and remained until we had it graded.
