The 1820 Capped Bust Half Eagle ( Fat Head) Square Base 2 BD-3 (R.5) is one of the most desirable early gold type and variety issues in the series, and this PCGS MS62 housed in an Old Green Holder with Gold CAC approval represents an exceptional upper-end survivor that borders on true Choice quality. Both obverse and reverse are drenched in rich yellow-gold, with vibrant frosty-to-satiny mint luster that still rolls boldly across the fields. The OGH and Gold CAC combination is especially compelling here, signaling not only strict legacy grading standards but also elite quality within the assigned grade tier. As a R-5 variety, the BD-3 Square Base 2 is prized by early half eagle specialists, with a survival estimate of roughly 95 pieces across all grades.
