From a mintage of 2,644,000, the 1928-S Standing Liberty Quarter can be found in nearly all grades; however, in Full Head, Superb Gem, CAC and Attractively Toned with the highest of eye appeal as one would suspect is impossible when collecting the best. Most survivors are poorly struck around the head and shield; thus finding Full Head examples are incredibly rare. This present example, however, stands apart as clearly one of the finest. With a PCGS Price Guide of $7,500 and the last CAC sale $21,600 03/20, whilst all previous PCGS CAC sale in the $9,000-$10,000 range for non-toned original examples, the $21,600 is most comparable to the offered coin because of a similar toning and at auction this may well give that coin a run for its money. Vividly toned and aesthetically pleasing for this Superb Gem Standing Liberty Quarter, the surface is splashed with iridescent reddish-copper, olive and golden-rose toning. The surfaces are fully frosted and very nice for the assigned grade. Most importantly the eye appeal and luster combined creates a truly spectacular coin that has to be seen in hand to be appreciated. Some attractive neon pastels outline the obverse especially near Liberty's head, introducing a blend of sun-pastel and golden shades. The surfaces are otherwise covered in pinkish-bronze patina.
