1917-D 50C REVERSE AU58 PCGS CAC
Walking Liberty Half Dollar
The 1917-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar with mintmark on the reverse is one of the standout condition challenges in the early Denver issues, struck during the brief period after the mintmark was relocated. Although not prohibitively low in mintage, attractive CAC examples are highly sought after. This toned example exhibits a beautifully blended, naturally evolved surface with a soft silvery-pearl gray foundation framed by iridescent accents of honey-gold, pale tangerine, rose and faint yellow-green, with subtle lavender and violet. Both sides display an attractive interplay of tone and luster, with smooth transitions, even surface texture, and visually cohesive color that enhances rather than obscures the artistry of Weinman’s iconic design. Considering a typical AU58 CAC would cost about $1,500 today or more, this seems like a great value considering how infrequent toning on this series is seen.
