Liberty Head Half Eagle
The 1907-D $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle is a Type 2, With Motto issue with an estimated 8,000 survivors, this remarkable specimen is an amazing Superb Gem showcasing silky-smooth texture, virtually pristine surfaces, and a delightful blend of frosty mint luster beneath an original medium orange-gold patina. Fully struck and visually striking, the obverse radiates with sunlit yellow-gold brilliance accented by buttery and lemon-gold highlights on Liberty’s cheek and hair, while subtle amber and pale honey tones enrich the protected areas. A delicate orange-gold halo at the periphery and smooth, satin-like fields underscore its high Mint State preservation. The reverse displays a harmonious medium yellow-gold hue deepening into amber-gold and copper undertones beneath the wings and shield, with lemon-gold flashes on the feather tips. The overall presentation is vibrant and beautifully preserved, with a rich gold palette ranging from bright lemon and buttery tones to warm amber and bronze, all amplified by strong cartwheel luster and minimal marks. Among the finest known from the second year of Denver Mint production, this premium Gem ranks just below a single MS-67 graded by PCGS. Whilst there was a MS66+ PCGS CAC comp, more recently a MS67 NGC non-CAC sold for $11,400 07/25 HA and should serve as a valid reference point.
