From a mintage of just 9,200 pieces, only 275 are known today in all grades. 1880-O $10 is an incredibly important issue and this is the Single Finest CAC example and the only graded MS63 at either PCGS or NGC. In UNC, only 5 unique examples are estimated - 2 CAC approved in MS60 and this MS63 with none finer making up the census with this example finest by 3 grades. PCGS has certified a single finer example a MS64 PCGS which sold 6 years ago for $129,250 03/2017 SB which is now off the market for the next few decades. Comparing the MS64 NON-CAC we see that example lacks eye appeal, has copper spots and major nicks on the prime focal area. It is understandable why that was not CAC. Nonetheless, the present MS63 PCGS CAC example is unique in that the details are fully struck, with strong hair and full star radial lines and with original unblemished surface creating an example with superb eye appeal thanks to its light yellow gold color with subtle attractive red-ish contrast. The attractive two-tone contrast only further accents the completely unhindered creamy unbroken luster generating a near-proof like flashy example worthy of being only in the finest $10 collection or Type Set. We grade the reverse a stone cold MS65 Gem, but as we know the obverse carries most the weight. No auction record exists for a MS63, PCGS estimates a Price Guide at $100,000 for MS63 and $125,000 at MS63+
