Struck from a tiny circulation mintage of just 3,500 pieces with only 200 estimated today in all grades, the 1868 issue ranks among the most elusive business strikes in the series, with surviving Mint State examples exceptionally rare and heavily pursued by advanced collectors and Registry Set participants. Both sides are engulfed in vibrant, multicolored iridescence with intense turquoise-blue dominating the fields, while accents of cobalt, violet, rose-magenta, rose-gold, and champagne-amber radiate throughout the surfaces. The obverse displays razor-sharp definition across deeply reflective, prooflike fields that amplify the dramatic coloration and underlying mint brilliance. The reverse features rich electric-blue peripheral toning complemented by warm golden-bronze and lavender highlights that shift beautifully beneath the light. Satiny luster remains vibrant beneath the layered toning, producing exceptional depth and outstanding eye appeal throughout. The present example is one of the finest with a CAC pop of 7 ( certainly includes resubmissions) and only 1 finer.
