The 1872-CC Liberty Seated Dime, graded VF25 by PCGS and approved by CAC, represents one of the rarest Carson City dimes in the series. With only 200 examples estimated today in all grades, this coin is notable for its original and attractive surfaces, a trait not often seen in the issue, which frequently comes granular or impaired. The obverse displays a rich blend of silver-gray and dusky brown hues with aquamarine and violet accents intermingled across the fields, complemented by deeper charcoal shades nestled in the gown folds, shield recesses, and lettering. Warm russet and coppery undertones emerge in the open areas, producing a subtle iridescence. On the reverse, golden-bronze and burnt-orange shades dominate around the “ONE DIME” legend, framed by darker blue-gray toning in the wreath recesses, with touches of lavender and rose along the border. With a CAC population of 1 and only 8 finer in all grades, this coin stands out for its rarity, originality, and eye appeal. The last CAC-approved example sold almost 10 years ago. Today even a non-CAC VF25 would be offered for around $6,500 as one is offered for $6,375 which has some issues. With very few CAC examples having sold in the past 4 years, except an AU58 PCGS CAC for $69,000 04/22 HA, one would be hard pressed to find another example let alone a toned CAC example.
