From a tiny mintage of 470 pieces, a number that implies all of the proof dollars were included in original silver proof sets, which is amazing to consider how each and everyone supposedly belonged to an esteemed collector. Regardless of the conjecture, this superb Liberty Seated Proof Gem Dollar has unbelievable toning and reflectivity seen on both the obverse and reverse. Multicolored toning graces both sides of this stunning Gem proof. Bright myraid of colors paints this example with the obverses dominated by fire-orange whilst the reverse neon salmon pink over sky blue. Not to mention all devices are sharply struck with tremendous reflectivity seen over surfaces that are void of any detractions. No doubt, an example that we believe was carefully preserved originated from an original set. Besides its technical and visual superiority, this Civil War issue adds only much character and desire to its rarity. Only 6 examples are graded finer which jump substantially in price point as one would expect. At PR65 PCGS, this example has a PCGS Price Guide of $16,000 with a relevant CAC comp for $22,325 for another beautifully toned example.
