Extremely popular clashed die variety for this 1857 Flying Eagle One Cent. There are 3 clashed dies for the 1857 series.
1) Clashed with Double Eagle obverse (Snow-7)
2) Clashed with Seated Quarter reverse (Snow-8)
3) Clashed with Seated Half Dollar obverse (Snow-9) ( CURRENT PIECE)
This famous clashed die variety shows partial silhouette of a Seated half dollar obverse around the eagle.
The offered example is unique not in terms of it being both Eagle Eye Photo Sealed as well as CAC, but more so because of the color and toning on this Flying Eagle un-seen before. With fiery sun gold radiating through the surfaces it is mixed with raging moments of orange fire through out the coin. A great coin not only for specialists but also for toned copper aficionados.
Very rare and only relevant COMPs are non-cac but eagle eye photo sealed S-9 approved but with no remote eye appeal or toning for $5,875 01/15 HA & $5,816 11/13 SB. Another point of reference for toned gem 1857 CAC example is the 1857 1C MS65+ PCGS CAC with rainbow toning for $18,212.
