1854-D $2.5 AU58 PCGS CAC
1854-D $2.5 AU58 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
One of the single rarest $2.5 extant. Overshadowed by its San Francisco counterpart a half a million coin, 1854-S $2.5, the 1854-D $2.5 is nonetheless incredibly rare from a tiny mintage of 1,760 of which 75 are known today in all grades with a few in uncirculated condition. No doubt rare in any grade, it is especially rare in AU50 and finer. The offered example is unique in that it is one of only 9 certified cac coins in all grades. In au58 it is tied with 3 others but with none finer. The coin is extremely attractive for the grade. A gem au void of any marks and with the trademark possession of die scratch seen on all 1854-d $2.5 below and around the dates. The surfaces are original and with a deep-green gold color. There have been no au58 pcgs sales in the past 8 years, but an au53 pcgs sold for $22,800 08/2019 and a au55 for $21,738 12/2019 both non cac pcgs examples. To be able to acquire an example superior on all fronts and be a cac example is perhaps as rare as this coin is.
