The single Finest 1852-O $2.5 graded MS63 PCGS. During the early 1850s the influx of newly mined California gold ensured higher gold production at all of the different mints, including 140,000 quarter eagles that were struck at New Orleans in 1852. Despite this mintage, the surviving population seems to be quite low, and Mint State examples are rare at all grade levels. This piece is the only MS63 graded by PCGS. Its records can be traced back to 1998 where it then sold for $12,650 and has since been part of numerous important collections including the C.L Lee Sale. Though this piece suffers from poor surface, it has proof like qualities and brilliant luster.
