Incredibly rare coin from a mintage of 10,945. As per Doug Winter “1849-D is one of the rarest of the Dahlonega quarter eagles from 1840s in high grade...” This issue comes typically with significant marks; however this example is remarkably free of any marks both through out the obverse and reverse. Last auction record was 8 years ago for a non cac that sold for $7,188 before that apr was in 2006. CAC pop 4 in au58 with 1 finer. Many regrades in au58 and likely 6 or 7 exist in pc 58
