This 1831 Capped Bust Dime is an exceptionally attractive and technically impressive example, offering original surfaces, vibrant toning, and a strike that exceeds expectations for the issue. With a survival estimate of just 1,500 pieces across all grades, Mint State survivors with this level of visual appeal are scarce and highly coveted. The most recent offering brought $8,700 07/22 HA for an off-white non-toned example. Similarly rare and also off-white example for an 1835 10c ms65 pcgs cac more recently sold for $9,000 05/24 HA whilst in MS66 PCGS CAC for $19,800 02/23 HA and higher. This obverse features a beautifully balanced blend of lavender-blue, rose-gold, and steel-violet toning. The reverse is original, with frosty silver-gold and champagne hues dominating the fields. Both sides exhibit ample luster despite the color. With CAC Guide at $8,500 and last comp for a less appealing example selling for more, we believe this a good purchase given they seldom come this attractive and were this in auction would bring considerably more in our opinion.
