1838-C $2.5 F12 PCGS
Classic Head Quarter Eagle
Lowest Mintage Classic Head, First Year Mintage, Mint-Mark on Obverse and 150 known in all grades. There is clearly a lot going on for this date, hence an ever-popular date with strong demand. The offered example is the single lowest graded Charlotte mint 1838 $2.5. A PCGS & NGC Pop 1 with none graded lower, this example saw thorough circulation. With deep-green gold hues and a lack of abrasions as normally seen, this example is a great show piece. The only comp is the next grade higher a POP 2 F15 that sold 10/2021 HA for $5,040 currently re-offered at $7,560, which is about the average price one would need to pay to acquire a 1838-C $2.5 in circulated condition, and a less attractive VF30 at $5,040 03/2020 KA.
