1820 1C Large Date can be found from the Randall Hoard; however these are seldom seen at the grade level with RD or CAC approval today. In fact for the type finding CAC 64 RD or finer is seldom seen. The last CAC-approved sale was 5 years ago realizing $6,600 04/21 HA. Today CAC Price Guide also sits at $6,500 whilst PCGS at $6,650. Though the numbers makes sense; they do not represent the 5 year growth since then. However, a non-CAC MS65 RD sold for $18,000 04/25 HA where as the previous sale sold $12,000 03/21 representing a good bump.
The coin displays the full, vibrant Red mint color expected of a well-preserved Randall survivor, its luster flowing smoothly and uninterrupted across both sides with a softly satiny, luminous quality. The obverse shows the hallmark N-13 diagnostic: a chain of interconnected die cracks joining each star and extending through the date—distinct, well-formed, and visible without magnification. Overall, the piece offers strength of color, clarity of detail, and an intact, original luster profile that together result in a particularly engaging and high-quality presentation for the type, especially in true Red preservation.
