The 1809/8 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle is one of the most desirable issues in the early United States gold series, combining a prominent overdate, limited surviving population, and broad appeal among collectors of early federal coinage. As the only known 1809-dated variety, BD-1 is readily identified by the visible remnants of the underlying 8 within the final digit of the date. Struck from a mintage of just 33,875 pieces, John Dannreuther estimates that only 250 to 325 examples survive today, whilst PCGS 350. This attractive AU58 specimen displays rich green-gold coloration with substantial remaining mint luster across both sides. The combination of CAC approval and a desirable Old Green Holder further enhances its appeal to collectors who value originality and premium-quality early gold. Demand for the 1809/8 half eagle remains strong due to its status as a distinctive overdate. CAC-approved examples in near-Mint State grades are encountered infrequently, and this piece offers an exceptional opportunity to acquire a high-end representative of a classic early American gold issue. With a CAC Price Guide of $18,000 and the last AU58 PCGS CAC sale at $18,000 02/23 HA but not for an OGH nor as nice this piece should bring tremendous demand to all collectors.
