1797 $1 10X6 STARS VF25 PCGS CAC

Superb CAC approved Draped Bust Silver Dollar, 1797 $1 represents one of two type for the date based on the number of stars present, which come in two formats: 9 x 7 or 10 x 6. Both with 16 stars representing the 13 original colonies plus the new states. From a mintage 7,776, interestingly there are approximately 1000 survivors today. A high number of survivors given the mintage likely because most were saved from extensive commerce use. At VF25, this coin is a CAC Pop 5 and PCGS cites a Price Guide of $7,000. No VF25 PCGS CAC has ever sold; however, the last PCGS sale was for NON-CAC that sold for $5,280, whilst the last NGC also NON CAC for $4,560. The coin is well struck for the issue and is well centered with dentils comparatively almost all present, though some weakness is seen on the reverse as they typically come. An important issue with a beautiful design, and even more so the obverse shows some attractive cobalt blue on the peripheries when tilted under a light over silky silver surface.
