This superbly preserved 1940-D Mercury Dime, certified PCGS MS68 and approved by CAC, represents one of the finest known survivors of the issue, with only six examples attaining this lofty grade at PCGS and none finer—of which just two coins have earned CAC endorsement, this and inferior example. The obverse radiates with a captivating blend of pearl-silver and golden-beige in the centers, dramatically framed by a vivid spectrum of burnt-orange, copper-rose, neon-magenta, and violet-blue, forming a naturally developed, multicolored halo. The reverse offers a softer yet equally elegant palette of champagne-gold, peach, and fuchsia-lilac, accented by flashes of sunset-orange and electric blue along the rim. A layer of frosty mint luster ripples beneath the color, with a bold strike throughout and only slight softness on the central bands of the fasces—typical for the issue. Free from distractions, the virtually pristine surfaces and rich toning elevate this piece into the highest tier of condition and aesthetic desirability.
