This exceptional specimen, formerly a cherished part of the renowned D. Brent Pogue collection, now stands as the distinguished PCGS Plate Coin. While it shares the top position, it claims the title of being the finest among its peers. Whether you are assembling a top-tier registry set or seeking to refine your collection, this example is an ideal starting point. Remarkably, there are no comparable coins on the market at this level. Since the early 1990s, this date in the coveted grade of 67 has surfaced only a handful of times, each instance resulting in swift acquisition and subsequent safeguarding for posterity.

This distinguished 1916-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar holds a unique status, with PCGS documenting just four pieces. Considering the likelihood of some examples being resubmitted in pursuit of a higher grade, the scarcity of this coin should not be underestimated. What sets this coin apart is its radiant cartwheel luster, showcasing the coveted 'satiny look' often associated with these early date Walkers. The luster not only accentuates the rainbow of toning on both the obverse and reverse but also contributes to the coin's exceptional beauty. The toning exhibits a captivating evolution of colors, including gold, green, cobalt, aquamarine, orange, and more.

Beyond its visual allure, the coin boasts outstanding preservation, and the strike is phenomenal: the hand and cap details are fully realized, inviting enthusiasts to explore and admire the intricate nuances with the aid of a magnifying glass.

We believe this to be the single best coin minted by the Denver minted that year for this important denomination. Renowned for its exceptional eye appeal and significant grade, this 1916-D Walking Liberty half dollar holds a distinguished status. Only one other Superb Gem 1916-D Walkers boast CAC endorsement. Simply put, once you look at this coin you should know how special it is and no doubt will end up in the best of collections.
