Perfect Low Ball for an important type Coin. This 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, graded PO01 by PCGS and approved by CAC, represents the inaugural issue of the beloved Standing Liberty series and stands as one of the lowest-mintage business strikes of the 20th century. With just 52,000 coins struck during the final two weeks of 1916 at the Philadelphia Mint, the issue was officially released in early 1917, making it not only the rarest date in the series but also a pivotal type coin for 20th-century collectors. This example shows clear signs of prolonged circulation, with nearly all design elements worn smooth, yet the silhouette of Liberty and the eagle remain discernible under close inspection. The coin displays a uniform medium-gray tone with charcoal accents in the recessed areas and lighter silver-gray on the worn high points. The surfaces are smooth and matte-like, with honest abrasions consistent with the basal grade and no signs of harsh cleaning or damage—factors that earned this piece CAC approval, a rare distinction at this level. According to the PCGS Population Report, only 53 examples are certified in PO01, with just 8 approved by CAC at this grade. While there are no recorded sales of a CAC-approved PO01, the most recent CAC-certified example in AG03 brought $3,120 09/23 HA.
