The 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, certified in an OGH and awarded CAC approval, is a numismatic masterpiece and a highly coveted key date in the Standing Liberty quarter series. With an extraordinarily low mintage of just 52,000 coins—struck in the final weeks of 1916 and released in early 1917—this issue stands as the lowest mintage in the series and one of the rarest U.S. coins of the 20th century. Its historical significance is heightened by its original design, which featured a bare-breasted Liberty, later revised in 1917, making it an exceptionally desirable piece across all grades. This Choice AU53 example exudes originality, with a luminous golden-silver hue complemented by pale yellow and champagne highlights across the obverse. Satiny surfaces display only the faintest hint of friction on the high points, blending seamlessly into the natural patina. This 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter will be a centerpiece of U.S. numismatics, representing a cornerstone acquisition for advanced collectors and a highlight of any distinguished collection, which has all the bells and whistle. No AU53 CAC has sold in in over 7 years though a AU55 PCGS CAC sold 3 years ago for $14,400 10/22 HA. We find this example as choice as the AU55 and believe today it should grade as such. But more importantly it has luster and is one of the most original and attractive circulated AU we have seen. This is how they should come and no doubt is special. CAC Price Guide $14,000.
