The 1914-S $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, Type 3 With Motto, graded MS63 in an Old Holder by NGC and elevated by a CAC Gold designation, is an exceptionally attractive example of this popular San Francisco issue, combining superior surface quality with vibrant eye appeal. Both obverse and reverse present rich orange-honey coloration layered over a luminous golden base. Contact marks are minimal and clearly indicative of close to GEM grade. Although the 1914-S is among the more available pre-1920 issues, CAC Gold recognition—just 5 graded at this level with none finer—confirms this piece as an elite-quality representative for the grade, offering exceptional visual harmony, originality, and technical strength within the series. A lower grade 1914-S $20 MS62 PCGS OGH GOLD CAC just sold for $6,437 03/26 GC. Considering this has more luster, less mark and an entire grade higher on top of a GOLD CAC make this seem like a home run.
