Despite several attempts by the Mint to adjust the design, the Buffalo Nickel coins proved to strike unclearly and were also subject to wear, where the dates were easily worn away in circulation. Deriving from the Denver Mint, the 1914-D Buffalo Nickel is relatively rare in circulated grades and is one of the semi-key dates in the Buffalo Nickel series as it is about equal in rarity to the 1913-D Type 2 and the 1915-D.

This 1914-D coin is a great looking sublime GEM that is of premium quality. The details suggest a bold nickel-silver luster that glows brazenly on both sides of the coin and displays brilliant lusters that highlight the cunningly struck devices and silky smooth surfaces. Only a few minor marks are seen with the aid of a strong glass, but apart from them it is flawless overall and any prime area lacks any marks or hits. A virtually splendid Gem with delicate golden-gray patina that honestly has serious claims to a finer grade. Just look at the fields and devices and you will agree.

This smooth and attractive specimen is sure to sell for a premium bid. With a mintage of 3,912,000, its survival estimate is currently only remaining at 8,000. It definitely is a wonderful example for the date and for any quality oriented set. The most recent example sold for $1,440 03/24 HA while MS66 sold for $3,290 04/23 LE.
