1913 $2.5 MS65 PCGS CAC
1913 $2.5 MS65 PCGS CAC
Indian Quarter Eagle
The 1913 Indian Head $2.5 gold coin, stands as an under-appreciated yet highly significant issue in the series. In gem condition, it is exceedingly rare, nearly as elusive as its 1912 counterpart. While the overall rarity of the 1913 issue is only marginally less than that of the 1912, locating a specimen in MS65 condition is a formidable challenge, evidenced by only 37 to have received the CAC seal in this grade, with just one finer known! This 1913 Indian Head $2.5 is well-struck, possessing unique level of luster for MS-65 grade, which surpasses the typical appearance of the 1911 or 1912 issues. The coin’s surfaces exhibit the characteristic granular texture found in most Indian Head $2.5 and $5 issues, complemented by a light to medium yellow-gold hue reminiscent of the 1909 and 1910 coins. Given its rarity and the increasing difficulty of finding such high-grade, the 1913 Indian Head $2.5 is a prized acquisition for serious collectors. More importantly, we would not bat an eye if this were graded MS-66. Truly a choice example for the grade. The auction comp record for this issue ranges from $9,600 to $12,600 depending on quality.
