The 1912-S Indian Head Ten Dollar Gold Eagle issue was struck at the San Francisco Mint, a facility whose gold coinage from this era saw heavy commercial use and correspondingly high attrition. From an original mintage of 300,000 pieces, it is estimated that only about 2,100 examples survive today in all grades, with well-preserved, original circulated coins representing a far smaller portion of that total. This VF30 example, graded by PCGS and approved by CAC, further benefits from the notable Ex James A. Stack pedigree, adding an extra layer of historical and market significance having been tucked away for over 75 years. The coin literally was picked out of circulation once would imagine. Displaying pleasing, original orange-gold coloration both obverse and reverse are free from evidence of cleaning - just honest wear. Contact marks are light, scattered, and entirely consistent with circulation. Surprisingly a total CAC Population of 115 with this at the lowest surpassed by 1 VF20. Considering the pedigree and legacy of the James a. Stack Sr. Collection this is an incredibly great find and at the right price, given melt is approximately $2,500 and today CAC Price is $3,150.
