1903 G$1 LA PURCHASE JEFFERSON MS67+ PCGS CAC
Gold Commemorative
The 1903 Louisiana Purchase Exposition Gold Dollar with Jefferson portrait, certified PCGS MS67+ CAC, is an extraordinary representative of America’s first few gold commemorative series. Authorized to celebrate the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase, these coins revived the long-discontinued gold dollar denomination and were struck to the statutory limit of 250,000 pieces, yet public demand fell far short of expectations. As a result, the majority of the mintage was melted, leaving a dramatically reduced supply. Of the 17,500 coins distributed, only a small fraction survive in high grades, and examples at this lofty level are exceedingly elusive. This Superb Gem exudes originality, its surfaces glowing with a luminous, satiny luster that rolls effortlessly across both sides. The color palette is dynamic and vibrant. At a grade of MS67+, this coin sits firmly at the top of the Condition Census, with only four numerically finer. CAC confirms none exceed this grade in its population. This exact specimen last sold back in 2021 for $3,525 09/21 LE whilst after that examples have sold for more $3,600 08/24 HA and $3,840 06/24 ST. CAC Guide today sits at $3,700 for non-plus, and with PCGS at $4,200 and no auction record in 2025.
