Tied For Second Finest from the Pogue collection, this 1899 Barber Dime, certified PCGS MS67+ and CAC-approved, is a exceptional survivor in top condition, with only one finer known at CAC. While the date is plentiful in lower Mint State grades due to a high mintage examples at the Superb Gem level—particularly with this degree of preservation and visual character—are exceptionally scarce. The obverse showcases a softly blended palette of cobalt blue, lavender, and salmon pink, transitioning into olive-gold and bronze across Liberty’s fully struck portrait, all atop frosted surfaces. The reverse is even more dramatic, with classic target-style album toning radiating outward in champagne-silver, crimson, orange, and cobalt, surrounding boldly defined agricultural motifs. Both sides remain untouched and exhibit glowing cartwheel luster beneath the color. This coin’s most recent auction appearance was a $6,000 03/20 ST, though more vibrantly toned counterparts have brought nearly $8,000, underscoring the premium placed on eye appeal. A visually arresting and technically elite specimen—perfect for the advanced collector or Registry Set competitor. This coin is the Second Finest in Jeff Ambio's Barber Dime Census.
