1898-S $10 AU50 PCGS CAC

This 1898–S $10 Liberty Gold Eagle had one of the higher mintages for the 1890s Gold Eagles from the San Francisco Mint. The mintage of this year was 473,600. Out of the total mintage, only 775 are estimated to exist today. The extant examples are so few due to widespread circulation and use in inter-bank deals. The AU grade for this example is tougher to find but presents a more financially acceptable collector grade than higher-priced mint state examples. Less than 100 AU examples exist. We believe the modest circulation adds to the originality and allure of this piece. This coin presents a buying opportunity for the astute collector who sees the value in acquiring a rare coin that is reasonably priced with a low population. We believe this date is highly undervalued, and as more registry sets emerge over the coming years, it presents a solid numismatic capital investment. There is no recent CAC sale or comparable example. This has a CAC population of 1, with only 15 noted in higher grades!
