Stunning 1898 Indian Head Cent, PCGS MS67 RD and certified Eagle Eye Photo Seal (EEPS), is a superb gem that ranks among the very finest survivors of the date, with PCGS reporting just 16 examples at this level and only two graded higher at the plus level. The strike is razor-sharp, with every feather in Liberty’s headdress fully defined and crisp horizontal lines unmarred by weakness—an uncommon level of detail even for the type. Vibrant original mint red luster blankets both sides in fiery copper-red and golden-orange hues, enhanced by subtle rose-gold and apricot highlights that pool in the protected recesses of the devices and legends. The fields are satiny-smooth, devoid of abrasions or distracting spots, producing an exceptional cartwheel effect under light. The reverse wreath exhibits pinpoint vein detail in each leaf, a fully articulated bow, and a sharply rendered shield framed in warm golden-red. Overall there is no mark or specks seen whatsoever. While the 1898 issue is generally available in full Red condition, at the Superb Gem level it becomes conditionally scarce, and this coin’s preservation, color, and luster make it a true condition-census prize. Auction records underscore its desirability, with the last two MS67 examples realizing $6,900 11/25 HA and $7,144 04/25 GC.
