The 1895-O Barber Dime is unequivocally the rarest circulation-strike issue of the entire Barber dime series and no doubt the Key Date. With a tiny mintage of just 440,000 coins and an estimated survivor count of fewer than 1,000 pieces across all grades, this particular specimen, graded PCGS MS65+ is not only pedigreed to both the Norweb Collection and the Law Collection, a previous #1 Finest Barber Dime Set, this coin is also pedigreed all the way back to 1908 and David Akers collection. This CAC example ranks near the top of the condition census as a PCGS pop 1 with only two certified finer by CAC. No MS65+ PCGS CAC has ever sold, and finding any finer is near impossible. The obverse glows with a warm palette of golden-bronze, tangerine, and soft cinnamon toning, accented by lime-gold and honey hues that encircle Liberty’s profile, which retains a light olive-gold sheen and sharp definition in the hair and wreath. The reverse features a beautifully even golden-bronze canvas, layered with orange-russet, auburn, and pale green peripheral hues, particularly striking near the bow and mintmark. Satiny luster shimmers beneath rich, original toning developed through long-term album preservation, while the surfaces remain entirely free from distractions or impairment. For the advanced collector or Registry competitor seeking a cornerstone rarity with top-tier eye appeal, condition integrity, and historic importance, this 1895-O is a benchmark-level acquisition—undeniably one of the most desirable Barber dimes ever certified. The design elements are razor-sharp, unusually so for a New Orleans issue, and are illuminated by thick, frosty mint luster. While there are technically 2 finer at CAC, and we would rank this as #3 Finest 1895-O 10C, it is no doubt the most pedigreed and desirable.
