The 1892-O Barber Dime represents the inaugural issue of the series from the New Orleans Mint and is a highly desirable type coin. This particular specimen is an elite survivor certified PCGS MS66+ CAC, with just two finer at PCGS, and a single CAC-approved coin graded higher. 1892-O 10C is rarer than 1905-O, 1906-O and 1908-O. This is comparable to 1908-D 10C in rarity. As noted by Jeff Ambio in Collecting & Investing Strategies for Barber Dimes, many 1892-O dimes were saved due to the novelty of the new design, making this the most available New Orleans issue in Mint State, though Superb Gems remain extremely elusive. This coin tied as the Third Finest exhibits exceptional visual and technical quality, with smooth, frosty mint luster overlaying both sides and a delicate blend of champagne-gold and pearl-gray accents that enrich the obverse fields and frame Liberty’s sharply defined profile. The reverse continues the aesthetic excellence, displaying silvery-white brilliance with hints of golden iridescence around the wreath and lower periphery, highlighted by honey-toned warmth near the “O” mintmark. 1892-O 10C are typically abraded and finding problem free attractive surfaces are tough. This example is unabraded, lustrous and attractive. With no auction records in any grade higher and a last public sale $5,760 08/24 ST, this coin stands at the pinnacle of the issue and represents a prime opportunity for both advanced Barber dime specialists and top-tier type set collectors.
