1891-O 25C AU50 CACG

1891-O Liberty Seated Quarter represents the only post-Civil War quarter of the type struck at the New Orleans Mint and stands as an important Southern issue within the late Seated Liberty series. Following a long 31-year hiatus, coinage resumed at the New Orleans facility in 1891, and the quarter denomination was produced in an extremely limited quantity of just 68,000 pieces. At the time, collectors paid little attention to mintmarks, and few examples were set aside, leaving the issue difficult to locate today in higher grades, and today only 500 exist in all grades. This CACG-certified AU50 example, offers exceptional visual appeal and originality for the grade. The obverse presents Liberty with clear, well-defined detail throughout the figure, shield, and drapery folds, while much of the original surface character remains intact. A luminous base tone fills the fields and central devices by vibrant peripheral bands of electric blue, violet, and golden-amber that encircle the stars and date, producing a striking visual contrast. The reverse shows rich multicolored toning pair and continues across the reverse, with vivid cobalt and turquoise hues framing the legend while warm copper-gold highlights radiate through the central fields and shield. Even more impressive is the number of CAC/CACG coins. CAC and CACG report 1 at AU50 with only 4 finer ( 1 in 58, 2 in 64 and 1 in 67) This exact example sold in the Palos Verdes collection for $13,562 02/26 GC. Considering how a VF30 NGC CAC costs $3,360 02/22 HA, and the eye appeal, color and luster that this has, this is certainly a unique example.
