CAC Pop 1/14 the 1890 $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle offered here is an exceptional Proof striking from an original mintage of only 93 pieces, with an estimated 35–45 survivors across all grades. Certified by PCGS as Proof 62 Deep Cameo and approved by CAC, this example represents the elusive and seldom-seen combination of original proof production, preserved frost, and bold field reflectivity. The obverse exhibits deeply mirrored fields that retain powerful reflectivity, forming a liquid-smooth black-mirror depth beneath the frost. The gold surfaces show an even, richly saturated yellow-gold core that transitions toward deeper honey-gold hues as the eye moves outward toward the denticles and protected recesses. Directional lighting reveals faint, vertically oriented die polish lines—an expected and desirable hallmark of the era’s preparation of proof dies. Warm orange-gold accents appear throught out giving an orange peel look. Population data further reinforces its exclusivity, showing just two graded in this designation by PCGS with a total of nineteen finer, and only a single CAC-approved example in this grade with fourteen finer. Coins of this caliber almost never surface, and when they do, they most certainly never are for this date less than $10,000.
