1890 $2.5 MS65+ PCGS CAC
1890 $2.5 MS65+ PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
Third Finest 1890 P-Mint Quarter Eagle from a low mintage of 8,720 pieces. Approximately 1,000 are known today in all grades and can be find with patience in low grades. This 1890 $2.5, is a PCGS POP 2, CAC POP 1 with only 1 CAC Finer. Graded MS65+ PCGS CAC, the example has a PCGS Price Guide of $15,000. An important conditional rarity for the quarter eagle series, 1890 $2.5 is an overlooked issue and only true Numismatist realize that this date has such a low mintage. No MS65+ PCGS sale exists; however, an NGC MS65 NON-CAC and a NGC MS65+ NON-CAC sold for $10,800 02/22 HA and $11,400 11/21 HA. Considering this is a PCGS MS65+ with CAC approval we believe this represents great value. Clearly one of the best struck Quarter Eagle's we have seen, the strike is full and sharp, the surface lustrous and flawless and never-ending. The coin looks like it was just struck yesterday. Completely brilliant with lustrous light yellow-gold color with terrific eye appeal. Overall one of the finest 1890 $2.5 but even more the quality of this example stand far and beyond as one of the best. Looks under-graded and we would not be surprised if it ends in a MS66 holder. One MS66 PCGS CAC exists and that is off the market for the next few decades. This is destined for the finest collection or Registry Set.
