1889 Indian Head Proof Penny is an unusual date in that though just 3,336 were minted, there are none finer than PR66 in RB, RD or CAM. It is an incredibly tough date to find in GEM or finer. The present example housed in an earlier OGH shows some toning with "apple-green and tan-gold fields attain navy-blue and violet colors when the coin is rotated under a light. A boldly struck Gem that has clean surfaces. Struck from clashed dies, a relatively infrequent occurrence for a later date proof." Wholesale Grey Sheet bid is $550, and we've priced this accurately despite some strong auction comps.
