1888/7 1C VG08 PCGS CAC EEPS

Key date of the entire series second to 1877 1c, only around 500 examples of this important 1888/7 Indian Cents are estimated to have survived for this rare overdate. Described by Rick Snow as “the top variety of the Indian Cent series,” the overdate shows traces of a 7 beneath the final 8 in the date, with a remnant of the 7’s top left visible on the upper part of the last 8. Discovered by James Ruddy in 1970 and published in *Coin World* and *The Numismatist*, this variety is recognized as one of the most important numismatic discoveries of its time, making it a highly sought-after addition to the Indian cent series. As a CAC-endorsed example, this outstanding coin’s preservation and aesthetic quality make it an exceptional addition to any collection. A POP 1 with only 13 finer at CAC. None have sold in the better part of 7 years except for an AU53 PCGS CAC for $19,200 and an AU58 PCGS CAC for $43,200.
