With an original mintage of 1,105 pieces and a survival estimate of roughly 225, this date is among the most desirable in the entire Gold Dollar proof series. The Philadelphia Mint’s proof gold production during this period achieved a level of precision and artistry rarely equaled, and this coin serves as a shining example of that achievement.
