1879-S $5 MS64+ PCGS CAC
1879-S $5 MS64+ PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Half Eagle
Pop 1/1. Second Finest 1879 San Francisco Half Eagle. 1879-S has long been known as a conditional rarity. Acquiring an example above MS63 is extremely difficult with only 2 pcgs sale above MS63 in the past 15 years. The present example a POP 1 with a PCGS Price Guide of $12,500 and is the second best to a GEM MS65 ( NOT CAC) that last sold 16 years for $23,000. Today that coin would cost as one would expect considerably more. This example is the finest CAC example and in terms of price point is less than third from a MS65 NON CAC. With rich-rose and green-gold patina encasing both the obverse and reverse, one will be struck not only by the lustrous surface but also the void of marks commonly seen on a MS64+. Unless you are hoping to acquire the single MS65 NON CAC, this is the best one you can acquire and should acquire.
