1878 50C PR61 CAMEO NGC CAC
Liberty Seated Half Dollar
As per PCGS COINFACTS "Proof 1878 Half Dollars are slightly more rare than many of the other dates in the 1870's and follow the Proof 1876 Half Dollars rather closely in terms of the total number of certified survivors and the grade distribution. This makes the 1878 a good value for collectors who are seeking a low mintage coin at an affordable price." As such this mintage 800 with a POP 1 both at PCGS and CAC has a few interesting features. The coin is near blast-white whilst PR61 grade is not special, the combination of having CAMEO surface still retained whilst a lower proof grade with CAC approval is. As such NO COMPs are known. PCGS suggests a Price Guide of $950, but nearly impossible to find at such level for this better date proof liberty half dollar with all the bells and whistle going for this coin.
