Superbly Toned 1878 Proof Twenty Cents. CAC POP 1. From a mintage of just 600, examples can be acquired in most grades; however, superbly attractive or CAC examples are incredibly rare to find as most have had an old cleaning. For example at MS63, 150 are certified by PCGS and 55 by NGC, not considering duplicates only 5 have been CAC certified. Similarly, at PR55 and PR58, both are CAC Pop 1. No PR58 cac has ever sold; however CAC value is $3,900. At PR55 lower grade a CAC sold 10 years ago in 2012 for $2,990, an untoned example. Beyond its rarity and originality, this coin has one of the best toning we’ve seen on a circulated proof. Rich blue hue is layered by teal and orange centers over sky blue peripheries. A remarkable piece that will not disappoint.
