This 1877-CC Liberty Seated Half Dollar, a Type 5 "With Motto" issue is among the finest known survivors struck in response to the Specie Redemption Act of 1875. Despite the high production figure, only an estimated 700 examples are believed to survive across all grades, and remarkably, this piece is one of just three to earn CAC approval in this grade with 1 Finer. This CAC-certified example last sold 4 years ago for $11,162 04/21 LE pedigreed to the Boylston Collection. The obverse and reverse is bathed in soft pewter-gray with delicate overtones of champagne, olive-silver, and faint bronze, framed by peripheral highlights of rose and golden-russet. Both sides exhibit deep satiny frost and uninterrupted mint luster, with not a single contact mark evident even under magnification. No example has sold since this; however, a lower graded examples like the MS64+ ( 2 grades lower) sold for $5,520 03/24 ST, and a 1877-CC 50C MS65 PCGS CAC we sold also for approximately $8,000 shows increased demand today. With a PCGS Price Guide of $12,500 and CAC at $12,000, and the last sale 4 years we see this representing strong value today.
