Struck during the penultimate year of Carson City quarter production, the 1877-CC Liberty Seated Quarter is one of the more available dates from the branch mint by mintage, yet Mint State examples remain elusive, with an estimated survivor count of just 3,000 coins across all grades. This Choice Mint State example is far from available which exhibits richly original album toning and exceptional surface quality, placing it among the very best. Vibrant peripheral hues of electric cobalt, fiery magenta, golden-orange, and teal encircle both sides, blending into frosty silver-gray centers that enhance contrast and highlight the well-struck design elements. The strike is notably sharp and the fields are smooth, satiny, and lightly reflective, consistent with a carefully preserved Mint State piece. This coin is certified MS63 by PCGS and approved by CAC, but is unlike any other MS63. The most recent CAC-certified MS63 example brought $1,920 08/22 HA and both PCGS and CAC price guides list this grade at $1,850 and $1,800 respectively, but the visual appeal of this coin easily ranks among the top-tier for the issue. It is one of the most attractive 25c Carson City we have seen and this will fit nicely in any type set, so make sure to throw away any auction comps.
