The 1877 Indian Cent, PCGS MS65 RB, CAC, EEPS represents the undisputed key to the Indian Head cent series and one of the most important date-and-condition rarities in U.S. numismatics. Struck in the midst of the economic depression of 1877, with a mintage of just 852,500 coins, survivors in Gem condition are exceedingly rare, especially with Red-Brown color and CAC approval. This Eagle Eye Photo Seal–approved example is one of the most beautiful example we have handled, about 95% Red and with about 5% pink toning on all the high points. The example boasts vibrant copper-red luster with peach, chestnut, and violet overtones, the most protected areas still retaining their original fiery bloom. The strike is sharp, showing full feather definition and crisp diamond detail in the headdress, while the reverse wreath is equally bold. Both sides exhibit smooth, satiny fields with cartwheel luster and outstanding eye appeal, precisely the quality CAC and EEPS certification attest to. With only 2 CAC finer, this coin sits among the absolute elite of its kind. Price guides place the value around $17,500–$18,000; however, no CAC example has sold in the past few years, whilst a lower graded MS64+ RB PCGS CAC EEPS sold for $14,500 05/25 GC, and a NON-CAC MS65 RB PCGS for $16,800 06/25 SB. A true centerpiece coin, it offers both rarity and exceptional beauty, standing as one of the finest attainable representatives of the 1877 Indian Head Cent without venturing into the prohibitively rare full Red designation.
