1876-S $5 VF30 PCGS CAC
1876-S $5 VF30 PCGS CAC
Liberty Head Half Eagle
Superb San Francisco Half Eagle Rarity, 1876-S $5 with a tiny mintage of 4,000. Only 100 are known today in all grades, of which most are circulated. PCGS graded 43 and NGC 24. At VF30, there has never been a CAC sale as there are only 12 known in all grades. PCGS quotes a Price Guide of $6,000 and quickly climbs into 5 figures at XF. CAC suggest a value of $7,350, a more accurate number. This CAC Pop 1 example is wholly original with remnants of dirt still visible on the obverse surrounding the devices. With the MS61 PCGS CAC just sold for $84,000 from the Fairmont collection, this issue has been given some new light, as it was under-appreciated for a while.
