The 1874-S half eagle, with a mintage of just 16,000 coins, is a significant condition rarity, as all its mintage was released into circulation in the 19th century. Today, only 115 examples are estimated to survive. This CAC-approved piece is one of only three in its grade, with just five finer! Slightly rarer than the 1870-S and 1873-S, and comparable to the 1875-S, the 1874-S remains elusive in Mint State, making this AU example the finest realistically attainable for most collectors. The attractive orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster.
