1873-S $5 AU53 NGC CAC

Attractive wholesome San Francisco Mint Half Eagle, 1873-S $5 from a mintage of 31,000 only 100 are known to exist today. This is an incredibly under-rated and undervalued Half Eagle in our opinion. The rarity to price of this coin is eclipsed by other Mint rarities in the surrounding year. Not only from a number of survivors is this undervalued but also for choice conditional examples. With a CAC Pop of 5 and only 7 finer, AU58 CAC quickly climbs in value to 5 figures with only 1 known 1873-S $5 in UNC. Fortunately we have consistent CAC comps at AU53 thanks to the Fairmont collection last selling 2 years ago for $4,320 11/21 ST & $4,200 03/21 ST, neither of which is as nice as this. We find this piece worthy of inclusion and superior to the aforementioned examples and priced fair.
